Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The mistletoe hung in the office with care,
in the chance that a kiss soon would be there.
The staff were all nestled and snug in their beds,
with memories of parties and wine in their heads.
The Boss with his bonus and wife with mince pies,
had settled their brains and relaxed both their eyes.
When out in the street, there arose such a clatter,
Though no-body understood what was the matter.
A poster had fallen down from the wall,
disturbed by the heat at the previous night’s ball.
The detectors, they noticed the beam had been broken,
Alarms at once sounded, call centres were spoken to.
Who would respond to the call centre’s pleas?
Who would return to the office with keys?
A liveried guard turned up in a flash.
Took out some keys from his van with a crash.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
keyed in the codes and then turned with a jerk.
He noticed the poster laying limp on the ground,
then he wrote his report and cut off the sound.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
let the call centre know there was nothing to dread.
So the staff were all nestled asleep in their beds.
The wine and the food still alive in their heads.
The boss and his wife were snoring and dreaming,
of how safe and secure they were: positively beaming!
No danger for them and their staff to respond to.
No arrests for drink driving by the boys in the blue
