Protect your property, prevent your problems

May 11, 2018

Crime is a threat to every business and all premises. It’s an unfortunate fact of life but that doesn’t mean you can’t protect yourself. Assessing the security risks to your business requires a lot of careful thought and consideration – much more than just jotting down a few notes on your lunch break – but it is an essential step to ensure that you don’t find out the cost of crime the hard way.

Here are our top tips for safeguarding your business before it becomes a target for burglars and vandals.

1) PRIORITISE your security

With criminals becoming more inventive with their methods, it’s important that you keep one step ahead. Start by identifying the main areas which may be vulnerable such as:

  • Where you hold stock or cash
  • Areas such as the car park and back entrance
  • Your front door not being locked properly

The steps you can take are endless and we understand that it’s not always easy to spot potential risks, nor is it easy to dedicate time to doing this when you’re running a business. This is why we offer a free security review and risk assessment to flag up any dangers. From there, we can advise you on the steps you could take to reduce your vulnerability.

2) PROTECT your premises

With crimes against businesses accounting for around 20% of all recorded crimes in the UK, having thorough processes and robust defences in place is now more essential than ever. And it’s not just your building you need to protect; there are your staff members too.

Staff are most vulnerable during opening and closing, particularly if they are working alone. Having dedicated training for what they need to do in an emergency situation such as a break-in gives them the tools to protect themselves and keep safe during these periods. This training also extends to:

  • Locking-up procedures
  • Setting alarms
  • Putting away valuable stock in a secure location

These steps sound simple, but they shouldn’t be overlooked. We’re here to help you manage all of these and put protection at the forefront of your procedures. Mobile security patrols act as a deterrent to passing thieves and ensure that any staff members working at night or alone (or even both) have someone on hand to assist them should they get into difficulty. And with a rapid alarm response, you can leave your building at the end of the day knowing help will not be far away if someone does manage to get inside.

3) PREVENT your problems

Only by being proactive can you ensure that problems with your security are minimised. Simply checking you’ve locked the office door and keeping valuable items or documents safely stowed away will go a long way to preventing a security issue, though there’s more to it than that.

If you spot someone acting suspiciously, especially if you’re working after-hours or on your own, report them to the police or to a mobile security guard who will ensure that nobody that shouldn’t be there cannot enter your premises.

There are a number of ways that we can help you to protect your workers’ welfare and prevent larger problems with security before they escalate. Regular patrols allow for a visual security presence and means that there’s less risk of doors being left unlocked.

For a more hands-on security solution, we have a team of highly-trained guards. They can also set alarms, check locks, and turn off any lights or equipment, as well as regular reports.
