Raise the Bar on Security

With the advent of the London Olympics an updated version of recommendations has been produced by The National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO). This is a police unit funded by and reporting to the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and has produced a document entitled Raise the Bar on Security, which provides counter-terrorism security advice to those who own, operate, manage or work in bars, pubs and nightclubs.

The document highlights the need for:

  • Good housekeeping to reduce the opportunity for placing suspect packages and to help deal with false alarms and hoaxes.
  • Clear communication of evacuation responsibilities and roles and well defined evacuation plans.
  • CCTV to help clarify if a security alert is real and to assist in any post-incident investigation.
  • Reporting suspicious activity to combat terrorism.
